The paper roster, kept once, on the screen it was going to be typed into anyway.
Open Attendance, choose the site and the day, and the whole crew is already listed, grouped by trade. Mark each person: Present, Absent, On leave or Sick. All present fills the column so that only the people who did not come need touching.
Three rules worth knowing
Whoever is not marked stays unrecorded. "Nobody said" and "he did not come" are different facts, and the second one costs a man a day's pay. Blank means blank.
The site is a property of the day, not of the man. A person's card says where they usually work. Send them to another site for a week and you mark them there on those days — their own site stops counting them and the site they went to starts. Nothing about the past changes, which is the whole point.
Impossible hours are not recorded as hours. The paper sheets have men signing in at seven and out at "12:00am", which a computer reads as minus seven hours. A day that comes out negative, or longer than sixteen hours, is left for a person to look at rather than being turned into a number.
What it produces
- The day's headcount by trade, which the Daily Production Report fills itself in from.
- Days worked per person over any period — the figure a payroll starts from, and the one nobody can reconstruct from a drawer full of signed sheets.
- People on site on the Overview board, and the headcount per site on the All sites page.
